Samuel Umtiti has agreed a contract extension with Barcelona, the LaLiga champions have announced.

The France international's extended deal ties him to the Nou Camp giants until 2023.

The Catalan giants have not confirmed the new release clause in Umtiti's contract, which previously would have allowed clubs to buy the France worldwide for a cut-price €60million.

Umtiti joined Barca for €25m from Lyon in 2016 and he quickly established himself alongside Pique in the middle of the back four.

Trump 'could pardon himself over Russian Federation but won't', says Giuliani
Negotiations between Trump's lawyers and the special counsel on a possible interview have continued ever since. And he said the legal team was leaning against having Trump be interviewed by Mueller's investigators.

Les Bleus beat Italy 3-1 on Friday evening, with Umtiti opening the scoring, and are still to play the United States before making their journey to Russian Federation.

His talents have not gone unnoticed, with United boss Jose Mourinho an apparent admirer as he looks to rebuild the Red Devils defence this summer. While the Ivorian is more likely to stay, the need to sign a centre-back is imperative for Manchester United, making the Barcelona superstar, considered one of the best in the world, a viable target. But, they have now received a setback in their bid to sign Umtiti, with the Frenchman reaching an agreement with Barcelona over a new five-year deal. The club are working on the basis that on Wednesday and Thursday the French defender's lawyers will be in Barcelona to ratify the new deal.

Umtiti is now on global duty with France as they prepare for the 2018 World Cup. But he also insists the club treat him like the key player he is.
