Halep emphatically ended the impressive French Open run of 2016 champion Garbine Muguruza with a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the semi-finals.

Sharapova's autobiography - the 31-year-old said her rivalry with Williams started after 2004 Wimbledon, where Sharapova won her first Grand Slam by defeating Williams in straight sets.

On Wednesday, Halep looked anything but the top seed, slipping 4-0 down in the first set before she rallied to defeat Kerber, a two-time major victor who had exited in the first round in Paris in the last two years.

"She's No. 1 in the world for a reason", Stephens said of Halep.

Muguruza hasn't dropped a set and has spent a combined total of 90 minutes on court in her last two matches (one shortened by her fourth-round opponent, who quit due to injury after only two games) - less time than Halep and Germany's Angelique Kerber logged in their first two sets Wednesday. The reference to her book seemed rather irrelevant given the one-sided nature of yesterday's match - Sharapova won only three games.

Muguruza's opponent Lesia Tsurenko lasted just two games before retiring hurt.

She also was coming off a lopsided victory in the quarterfinals a day earlier, overwhelming five-time major champion Maria Sharapova 6-2, 6-1.

This time, she made no mistake. She's too good of a player to continue to come up short in the big moments. I'm playing well, in a good space.

LeBron's Game 3 dunk sets social media on fire
The Warriors' offense came too easy, a symptom of slow switches and only mediocre closeouts on Golden State shooters. Curry and Thompson can slog through arguably the worst Finals games of their careers, and it won't matter.

According to Van der Bellen, Russia forms part of Europe, and it is impossible to resolve worldwide issues without it. The Russian president also met Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz who spoke of the need for dialogue with Russia.

Dynasty's doorstep: Durant, Warriors take 3-0 lead in Finals
Durant didn't play particularly well in Game 1 , and he hasn't been ideal in the playoffs either. Steph Curry's record breaking performance led the Warriors to a 2-0 series lead over Cleveland .

"I lost three times until now and no one died", Halep said, "so it will be OK". Now I just have to go find her, because I need to tell her some juicy stuff.

I can only conclude that the market has grossly over-reacted to seeing Muguruza's beating of Sharapova yesterday afternoon, and made her a false favourite for this clash - Halep at [2.10] is today's recommendation. The Russian won only five of 26 second-serve points in the face of Muguruza's elegant 6-2, 6-1 stampede. I'm not ever going to try to be a person that isn't nice, so that feels more authentic to me and, you know, I think I'm still doing okay.

After racing through the first set, Halep saved three break points in a marathon ninth game of the second which lasted 13 minutes.

"Coming into this part of the year, I was losing a few first-round matches, matches that I wanted to be winning, of course", Sharapova said.

"I have to expect some hard points, power". Ten-time champion Nadal completed a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 win over Diego Schwartzman.

But by the third set Halep had broken the German's defenses - and her resolve - as she banged in 76 percent of her first serves, with only half the unforced errors of her opponent.

"She was playing incredible right away, and I think I should have done something a little bit better to not let it go so fast".

"I think I played one of my best matches on clay", Halep said in a courtside interview.
