"Me and my brother (Mischa) are guys that spend three, four hours a day in the gym, lifting heavy weights, on the treadmill".

Alexander Zverev reached his maiden Grand Slam quarter-final after a third consecutive five-set victory against Karen Khachanov at the French Open.

Stephens, the 10th-seeded American, also reached the last eight in Paris for the first time, beating No. 25 Anett Kontaveit of Estonia 6-2, 6-0.

Alexander Zverev had to come from behind once more to book his place in his first Slam quarter-final.

But the greater power of Keys paid dividends in the breaker, as the American finally took the opener on her fourth set point with her 18th victor.

Zverev is a popular figure, he's had an incredible year but it wasn't really a match.

No 7 Dominic Thiem of Austria - a semi-finalist at Roland Garros the past two years - faces No 19 Kei Nishikori of Japan.

At the start of the fifth set, he had a medical time out for treatment for an apparent blister on his left foot.

"When he made me run, he was actually dictating the rallies", said Goffin, whose right elbow was looked at by a trainer during the match, "so it was hard for me to have the upper hand".

After looking down and out for much of the third set, second seed Zverev was sacked up by a code violation for being coached from the stands by his father Alexander Sr midway through the fourth set and he vented his anger by instantly breaking for a 4-2 lead.

"I don't know if I'm going to play on grass", Djokovic, who won the last of his 12 Grand Slam titles in Paris two years ago, told reporters crowded into a small interview room after he declined the opportunity to use a much larger one.

Novak Djokovic booked his spot in the quarters collecting his 200th career clay match win beating a Fernando Verdasco 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.

"Then once you get to the second week, every match obviously has more nerves, and there's more on the line".

The second-set tiebreaker was scrappy, Zverev clinching it with an ace to level the match.

Asked whether he could have envisioned, even as recently as April, that he would get this far at a major tournament, Cecchinato answered with one word, "No", before breaking into as wide a smile as can be.

"I definitely thought about it, but I didn't want to pull out for the first time of my career in a Grand Slam quarter-final", said Zverev.

Her box, including three-time major victor Lindsay Davenport, rose to acclaim Keys, who lost last year's U.S. Open final to friend and countrywoman Sloane Stephens.
