California Lieutenant Governor and former SF Mayor Gavin Newsom is headed to the Governor's race in November after a first place finish in last night's election, but he won't be facing former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa as many expected.

The other three states gave Clinton big margins, and California alone gave her enough votes to secure her popular-vote margin over Trump as the President was winning his electoral college majority.

John Cox, a Republican candidate for governor, recieved the backing of Donald Trump, but that support could hurt him in the winner-take-all race in November.

The deep blue state enjoys a system that selects the top two qualifiers for the general election ballot by most votes garnered. And so the problem may be that Democrats have so many people running this time around, that it could split the vote and Republicans could end up benefiting.

Recognizing the high stakes in California, Trump sought to energize his supporters in a series of tweets praising his preferred candidates.

If House Democrats win a majority in President Donald Trump's midterm test this fall, it will be because they were able to turn key New Jersey districts from red to blue.

That remains to be seen, as voters in seven other states went to the polls. "Even Fake News CNN said the Trump impact was really big, much bigger than they ever thought possible", Trump wrote.

"A lot of them are running in pretty competitive primaries but in districts that are ultimately not going to be that competitive in the general election", said Jennifer Lawless, the director of the Women & Politics Institute at American University in Washington, D.C. "Remember, Dems are High Tax, High Crime, easy to beat!"

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey, who stepped in past year when Robert Bentley resigned (becoming the state's first female governor), beat out Tommy Battle, state Sen.

As FoxNews claimed the California's primary was a victory for the Republicans and MSNBC said the same about the Democrats, the truth is the results of California's primary were rather mixed. "I think this is becoming a traditional midterm where the party controlling the White House is going to lose seats". In order to regain control of the House, they must win back 23 seats, which is sure to be challenging, despite promising signs so far. This year, 184 Texas Democrats filed to run in state house races, the most since at least the early 1990s.

In Alabama, four-term Republican Republican Martha Roby was forced into a run-off election next month after failing to win 50 per cent of her party's vote.

Real Madrid To Tell Cristiano Ronaldo To 'Find A New Club'
Portugal upset the odds in their last global tournament by beating hosts France 1-0 in the final of the 2016 European Championships.

In 2016 Roby was the first Republican member of Congress to withdraw her endorsement of Trump, then the Republican presidential nominee after he was caught on video bragging about grabbing women's genitals.

Incumbent Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds ran unopposed in her party's primary and will face Democrat Fred Hubbell, who cruised to his party's nomination Tuesday with 55 percent. She breezed through the primary and will face off against Kevin de Leon, a favorite of liberal activists, who finished a distant second.

The districts most likely to flip are the two being vacated by retiring Republicans, the 2nd District in South Jersey and the 11th District in North Jersey.

In the state's 3rd District, incumbent Republican Rep.

Republican Rep. Mimi Walters easily advanced to the November election in her Orange County district that has been targeted by Democrats.

It was a different story in MS, where 66-year-old Gladys Cruz wasn't sure which Republican she would support in the state's Senate primary, but she wanted whoever won to firmly support Trump. He notched about 30 percent in a large field, though the second-place finisher remained unclear.

Meanwhile, Republicans are looking at Montana as a chance to take away a Democrat seat in the US Senate.

But for the second straight election, Republicans could not get a candidate through to the general election for the Senate.

A key Senate race took shape in the heart of Trump country as well.

National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Rep. Steve Stivers told reporters Denham lost votes because some Republicans supported his Republican competition, Ted Howze, who got 14.4% of the vote. Jon Tester, a vulnerable Democrat.
