Burger joints start social "beef" with "IHOB"

IHOP, the International House of Pancakes, has changed its name to IHob.

The chain is no longer the International House of Pancakes, but rather the International House of Burgers as they launch their new line of steakburgers.

Since IHOP announced the name change (without saying to what) on Twitter last Monday, more than 30,000 people have participated in the speculation game. IHOP even later tweeted out a poll asking followers to guess what the "b" stood for, with possible answers including biscuits, bacon, butternut squash, and barnacles.

The good news for truly angered pancake connoisseurs is that all the burger brouhaha appears to be a marketing ploy.

Turkel said the new name may get consumers to think of IHOP as an establishment that serves more than a breakfast meal. Though we have a soft spot for the classic IHOP menu (here's a short stack of copycat recipes), the restaurant's new line-up of mouthwatering burgers sure does sound delicious.

Tell Us: Will you be trying one of IHOb's burgers?

For those of you who don't like change, not to worry. It doesn't seem like any of the restaurant chain's original items will be changed or replaced as a result of the new burgers. "We've pancaked pancakes for 60 years now so it's the ideal time to start burgerin' burgers".

Others noted that the Ob in the IHOb logo looked extremely similar to the O.B. brand of tampons.

It tweeted, "dear internet we have officially changed our name to Cake-umm because Steak-umm just wasn't doing it for us anymore or something".

Legendary fried chicken purveyor Church's Chicken posted an Instagram photo that poked fun at the IHOP name change buzz.
