Mr Kudlow suggested Mr Trump saw Mr Trudeau as trying to weaken his hand before that meeting, saying the president would not "let a Canadian prime minister push him around".

President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau engaged in a war of words after the G7 summit. Canada is joined by other major economies, including Germany and France, who have found the idea "insulting" that trade agreements between allies could be called security matters.

Trump announced yesterday he was backing out of a joint statement made by the countries that attended this weekend's G-7 Summit in Canada, after Trudeau gave a press conference in which he said Canada planned to retaliate against the Trump administration's recently-announced tariffs that will commence July 1.

She also said the European Union would "act" against the United States trade measures.

Trudeau fires back on May 31 over the tariffs being applied on the premise Canada poses a national security threat to the U.S.

Larry Kudlow, the White House economic adviser, also characterized Trudeau's remarks as a "betrayal". "He really, actually, you know what, he did a great disservice to the whole G-7".

The prime minister has kept a low profile since Trump called him "very dishonest and weak" and withdrew support for a Group of Seven communique reached at the summit Trudeau hosted in Quebec on Saturday.

Spanish newly sworn-in Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said he instructed the ship to be admitted to the eastern port of Valencia. Malta said the rescue operations took place in global waters off Libya and were coordinated by Italy.

White House trade adviser Peter Navarro further escalated those attacks during an appearance on Fox News Sunday. Navarro later clarified that his comments were "the sentiment that was on Air Force One after that".

Mr Kudlow accused the Canadian PM of betraying Mr Trump with "polarising" statements on trade policy that risked making the USA leader look weak ahead of a historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Trump, who is in Singapore for negotiations with North Korea, continued to rip into U.S. trading partners late Sunday night Eastern Time, repeating complaints about the U.S. trade deficit and contributions to NATO. "Kim must not see weakness". "He can't do that". May paid tribute to Mr. Trudeau for "his leadership and skillful chairing" of the G7 and added that the United Kingdom "fully intends to honour the commitments we have made" in the final communiqué.

Trump focused his conversation with Macron on German trade for about 15 minutes in the one-hour meeting. Canada is the top U.S. export market, with the country buying more than $340 billion in American goods and services in 2017, according to data from the U.S. Trade Representative. Canada does indeed impose a 270% tariff on dairy that has kept many USA dairy products from making their way from the U.S.to Canada.

"Why should I, as President of the United States, allow countries to continue to make Massive Trade Surpluses, as they have for decades, while our Farmers, Workers & Taxpayers have such a big and unfair price to pay?" he wrote. And, overall, the US has an $8.4 billion surplus with Canada.

Trump quickly responded by personally attacking Trudeau.

They welcomed stranded US travelers after the 9/11 attacks; they share the longest undefended border with the USA; and they have been our allies in the modern global security apparatus that Trump now wants to blow up.
