Kenilworth doctor made CBE in Queen's birthday honours list

Malcolm Richardson, a magistrate in North Avon and then South Gloucestershire for more than 25 years, and former national chairman of the Magistrates" Association, has been recognised in the honours list for "services to the administration of justice'.

He was made an OBE in 2007 for his work.

Premier League and former England striker Jermain Defoe described himself as "blessed and humbled" to be recognised with an OBE for his services to the charitable foundation set up in his name.

The 55-year-old joked that although he was genuinely surprised - and a little overwhelmed - to receive the news, he won't be changing what he does.

John Short, chief executive at the trust, said: "I was so delighted to hear that Katharine has been awarded this well-deserved honour".

West Berkshire Councillor Virginia von Celsing (Con, Compton) was also appointed an MBE for public and political service.

In the business sphere Judy Naake, who made millions selling St Tropez self-tanning products, initially from the back of her auto, receives an MBE for services to entrepreneurship, the community and philanthropy.

Sister Imelda Poole, president of European anti-trafficking network Renate, receives an MBE for services to combating modern slavery.

Following a campaign to honor more women in the community, the upcoming Queen's Birthday Honours List shows a record 15% increase in female recipients compared to the Australia Day 2018 Honours List.

"Although my work is challenging, my aim is to ensure that the young people in my care have a positive experience of mental health services and that they are supported through their journey on the way to recovery".
