On Wednesday in Moscow, the trio bid of the United States, Mexico and Canada beat Morocco in a vote to earn the hosting rights to the 2026 World Cup.

"It's a watershed moment for our country and for our sport", said Peter Montopoli, general secretary of the Canadian Soccer Association and Canada's bid director.

There's no guarantee Canada will have a team at the 2026 World Cup, the first time it will be hosted by more than one country.

The country has competed in just one World Cup in its history, qualifying for the 1986 tournament and failing to collect a single point from three matches. US will regroup in the coming years and attempt to clinch a spot in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar before turning its attention to home pursuits.

This will be the United States' first time hosting World Cup matches since 1994.

Mexico has twice hosted the World Cup, in 1970 and 1986.

Morocco had attempted to highlighted their opponents' weaknesses by focusing on how their revenue projections were realistic as well as the compactness of their bid.

The 1994 World Cup in the United States set an attendance record that still stands, with almost 3.6 million spectators for only 52 matches.

Three US territories - Guam, the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico - were among the other member nations to not vote. Canada has never hosted a men's World Cup but held the women's tournament in 2015.

A few strong storms possible (again) in Alabama Tuesday
Beyond Wednesday , rain chances become minimal as high temperatures creep back into the 90s for the second half of the week. Temperatures will top off this afternoon in the mid to upper 80s with the heat index at 90+ for most.

Dennis Rodman Thanks Eddie Vedder From Trump/Kim Jong Un Summit
I couldn't even go home, for thirty days. "A great day", he finished, referring to Monday's United States-North Korea summit. Just in case you did not know this, Dennis has formed a strong relationship with Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump .

Prior to the vote, FIFA's inspections report favored the North American bid, highlighting three "high risk" elements in Morocco's bid: stadiums, hotels and transport.

If we're spitballing, it's hard to imagine the United States being forced to qualify for a World Cup in which it is the predominant host.

But which cities and stadiums will host games at the tournament is still being determined.

Morocco Federation: "I wish to congratulate Fifa for the conduct of this process and congratulate the president for what he has done in order to move things towards more transparency and more inclusion".

2018 will be the 21st Fifa World Cup, 88 years after the inaugural tournament in Uruguay (1930) and for the first time in Russian Federation. There is also no National Football League stadium within Portland that could be used. Then the remaining four teams will play, with the winners securing the final two spots in the tournament.

Steven Reed, president of the Canadian Soccer Association, called the FIFA Congress decision "an extraordinary honour and privilege".

With a handful of games in Mexico and Canada but the majority in the USA, the 2026 bid promises the richest and most lucrative tournament in the history of global soccer. "'We are humbled by the trust our colleagues in the FIFA family have put in our bid; strengthened by the unity between our three countries and the CONCACAF region; and excited by the opportunity we have to put football on a new and sustainable path for generations to come".

A statement released by the Colorado Rapids, the Denver Sports Commission and the Stadium Management Company said Denver is among approximately 23 cities in consideration to host World Cup games eight years from now.
