With the service, you have an estimate in advance showing approximately how much your ride will cost, and you get to sit in a clean late model auto instead of a dirty cab with a driver running up the fare.

For a reason yet to be explained, Alphabet's removed the ability to hail Uber rides from Google Maps. Come early 2017, meanwhile, Google Maps integrated Uber trip bookings, allowing the whole ride to be managed from within the app rather than requiring a handover to Uber's own software on the phone.

In January of 2017, Google made getting an Uber ride easier than ever by integrating Uber directly into Google Maps.

Going forward, to book an Uber ride, you will have to use the Uber app. However, for reasons now unknown, Google just removed that integration. This meant less steps for users which could also help drive the number Uber rides.

Now though, that service integration is gone - and we have no idea why.

This does put the Android app in line with the iOS app, though.
