North Korea to return US remains who died in Korean War

Xinhua said Kim met Chinese President Xi Jinping for a second day of talks on Wednesday and cited Kim as saying the visit was an opportunity to "deepen the friendship" between the two leaders and advance bilateral ties.

In Beijing, Kim is likely to ask Xi to ease up on economic sanctions - something the United States strongly opposes.

Kim is in Beijing on his third visit to China this year, underscoring the major improvement in relations between the communist neighbours.

Professor Su Hao of the China Foreign Affairs University said Mr Kim's visit was important especially given the concessions from Mr Trump to North Korea, including the softening of the USA stance on denuclearisation by not emphasising the need for it to be verifiable and irreversible. It was a clear sign of the restive state's ambitions to boost its economic engagement with Beijing, analysts said. The visits to the two locations were also reported by Chinese media.

"While North Korea agreed to nothing new, the United States took the unprecedented step to indefinitely suspend our joint military exercises with our ally", said Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Fla., chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee subpanel on Asia and Pacific issues.

He said he believes that under the joint efforts of both sides, China-DPRK relations will certainly benefit the two countries and the two peoples.

The US defense secretary also is scheduled to discuss the details with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and national security adviser John Bolton, who said the North faces a "decisive and dramatic choice" on whether to give up its nukes.

The official media of both countries did not say whether Kim and Xi discussed the prospect of easing United Nations sanctions that have crippled North Korea's economy, though analysts said it could have been part of the agenda.
