To prosecute migrants, ‘you have to take the children away’

US President Donald Trump defended the "zero tolerance" policy leading to migrant families being split on the US border as the only effective way to fight illegal immigration. But Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of NY said the fix needs to begin with Trump. She was at the White House where Trump told reporters he would be "signing something" shortly.

That's actually in keeping with the previous administration's policy, in which children were taken away if immigration officials felt the child was in danger, or if the adult was not the child's actual parent or guardian or if the adult was charged with a crime. "Go for it! WIN!"

UPDATE (12:04 p.m.)- President Donald Trump says he'll be signing something "in a little while" to address the spike in the number of migrant children being separated from their families at the border.

The House of Representatives planned to vote on Thursday on two bills created to halt the practice of separating families and to address other immigration issues.

Trump has been trying to win over Congressional support on immigration amid a crisis along the border involving the separation of immigrant children from their families.

Although it was unclear if this is what Mr Trump is signing, he said he would be "signing something" and said he wants to keep families together.

Videos of youngsters in cages and an audiotape of wailing children have sparked anger at home from groups ranging from clergy to influential business leaders, as well as condemnation from overseas.

Disney increases bid for Murdoch's Fox assets
Murdoch will keep a few properties, including Fox News, the Fox Sports national cable channels and the Fox broadcasting network. Fox and Disney shareholders had been scheduled to vote on Disney's original bid July 10, but that meeting has been postponed.

The act does not mandate family separations. "Or, prosecute them and then under court cases and the law, they have to be separated from their children".

Trump was headed later Tuesday to Congress to huddle with Republican lawmakers, many of whom are deeply uncomfortable with the separation policy.

House Speaker Paul Ryan said the House will vote Thursday on legislation which keeps families together when immigrants are prosecuted at the border.

Even some of the president's biggest Republican supporters said they disagree with his policy.

Following the meeting he tweeted: "Republicans want security". They don't care about crime and want illegal immigrants, no matter how bad they may be, to pour into and infest our Country, like MS-13.

The administration recently put into place a "zero tolerance" policy in which all unlawful border crossings are referred for prosecution - a process that moves adults to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service and sends many children to facilities run by the Department of Health and Human Services.

There are questions now about what Homeland Security will do with the families that cross over, and also how the government will reunite children with families.
