After seemingly endless speculation about the future of a ROSEANNE show without star Roseanne Barr, ABC has made it official: a spinoff show now titled THE CONNERS has received a 10-episode order at the network, with Barr not returning. Instead, the show will go on under the new working title "The Conners" - the surname of the family featured on the show - and will bring back the rest of the cast, including John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf and Sara Gilbert.

As ABC announced that they had greenlit Roseanne spinoff The Conners, Roseanne Barr made it clear that all ties to the alphabet network had been severed.

The network also included a statement from Barr: "I regret the circumstances that have caused me to be removed from 'Roseanne, '" she said. Barr will have no financial or creative involvement in the series.

Mark Reilly and John Rocha are here to give you their reaction to this news and this decision by ABC.

Last month, "Roseanne" was canceled after Barr tweeted racist remarks about former Obama adviser Valarie Jarrett - who is African-America - and compared her to an ape.

The series is set to premiere sometime this fall. She later apologized and called her tweet a "bad joke".

Tom Werner, executive producer of the original series and the revival, said in the statement that he was grateful to reach the deal to keep the team working "as we continue to explore stories of the Conner family".

Talks of a "Roseanne" spinoff began nearly immediately after the series was canceled, then dragged on for more than two weeks following the abrupt end of what was last year's highest rated television series in Nielsen's 18-49 demo. "We are so happy to have the opportunity to return with the cast and crew to continue to share those stories through love and laughter".

In a joint statement, the cast expressed support for the project. Sources tell Variety that Werner appealed to Barr to step away from the spinoff in support of the crew members who would be put out of work by the cancellation of "Roseanne".

Some have wondered whether Barr could still benefit from The Conners, despite ABC's assurances.

However, ABC has announced that the network has picked up a Roseanne spinoff that will debut later this year.

What's more, "Roseanne" reruns spawned about $1.2 billion in ad revenue for cable networks and syndicators between 1995 and 2017, according to Kantar. Will it rile up Barr (despite her stated blessing) and her biggest fans?
