"Immigration is the fault, and all of the problems were having is because we can not get them to sign legislation and we can not get them to the negotiation table", Trump said, blaming the Democratic Party.

The President said it would be separate, but equal with the Air Force.

He said the new branch's creation will be overseen by Gen. Joseph Dunford, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Dunford replied: "We got it".

For now, questions exist as to whether the president has the authority to create an additional military branch.

Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White said the department's policy board would prepare to implement Trump's order.

"Our destiny beyond the Earth is not only a matter of national identity but a matter of national security", Trump said.

Meanwhile. on the Space Force. It's not clear if the president's comments Monday were meant to override or influence that study.

Trump has mentioned the formation of a Space Force before, saying in March "space is a warfighting domain just like the land, air and sea". The Defense Department will continue to maintain a catalog of space objects. Military officials, including Defense Secretary James Mattis, have pushed back on the idea the military should have a separate space force.

Since the end of the shuttle program in 2011, NASA has contracted with the Russian space program to take astronauts on missions to the International Space Station. Conceptually, it's created to oversee missions in space, with a view towards space defense. So far, the Pentagon doesn't have any cost estimates for the development of a new command, or any description of how it would be set up or its impact on other defense and intelligence agencies.

During his remarks, Trump promised that America will always be first in space and that national pride is at stake.

There's general consensus among lawmakers that it's time to grant special attention to military space issues - but not how it should be done.

Trump envisioned a bright future for the United States space program, pledging to revive the country's flagging efforts, return to the moon and eventually send a manned mission that would reach Mars.

However, because the treaty does not specify conventional weapons, countries such as the U.S., China and Russian Federation are looking into ways to expand defenses to space - such as anti-satellite missiles, etc.

He added, "The essence of the American character is to explore new horizons and to tame new frontiers".

Trump's Monday announcement appeared to come as a surprise; most of the National Space Council meeting centered around cooperation between the federal government and private industry, specifically concerning where private companies can launch spacecraft so as not to collide with satellites and space debris. "However, the space operating environment is becoming increasingly congested and current space traffic management activities are inadequate to address this rising challenge", Mr. It is created to avoid collisions and spacecraft breakups. "We don't want China and Russian Federation and other countries leading us".

Members of the Congress, who will need to give budgetary approval for the Space Force, are also very divided on taking away responsibility from the Air Force, Reuters notes.
