Spain Look For First Goal

A member of Iran's World Cup team needed to be taken to hospital after celebrating a disallowed equaliser against Spain.

Wednesday's match opened with Spain launching fierce attacks but failing to find clear-cut chances as the Iranian side put up a strong defense.

Heading into the tournament in Russia, Iran had previously only won a single game at a World Cup against the United States in 1998, however after a tight and testing 90 minutes against Morocco, Iran were gifted a late victor thanks to an own goal in additional time.

There have been no goalless draws in 20 games at the 2018 World Cup - the last time this happened was in 1954 (there no 0-0 draws in the 26-game tournament).

As we've been saying for a few years now, he's one of the two or three best goalkeepers in the world.

"Everybody knows that Spain is one of the greatest teams in football history, and one thing that we can guarantee is that the Spanish team will not have an easy time against us", he told reporters.

After a match played out to a deafening blare from vuvuzela horns from a huge army of Iranian fans, Spain will feel relieved to have emerged with maximum points. And results have not been too bad, as Spain is level on points with Portugal for top spot in Group B and in an excellent position to qualify for the knockout stage.

With Iran constantly closing Spain down, their goal came thanks to a fluke that bounced off Diego Costa's leg.

Kagawa, Osaka help Japan down Colombia
Despite being the first Asian team to defeat a South American side, the supporters of the blue samurai did not go overboard. Sanchez did not speak to reporters after the match. "To score a goal for me in World Cup has been a dream", Osako said.

On Sunday's game, he said England had done "due diligence" on Panama and was not expecting an easy game. He impressed last season on loan at Crystal Palace , who would like him to return to Selhurst Park.

Kroos keeps Germany's World Cup hopes alive with late stunner
But the Germans tied it up in the 48th minute off a goal from Reus, and Kroos's victor changes the equation entirely. I didn't witness that because after the final whistle we were concentrating on other things.

BBC Sport's pundit Chris Sutton wrote about the match, "Iran are what the World Cup is all about: pride, passion and drive".

"Everybody knows that our boys are fighters, and we will fight and we will keep our concentration until the very last second of the match".

"We were ready to suffer and ready to compete and ready to try our chances to win the game".

While it remains to be seen if he will start or not, Hierro will surely feel tempted to select him following a shaky display from Nacho Fernandez at right-back against Portugal.

"It's our second game and it's hard, but we want the three points to give ourselves options for the third game".

FIFA World Cup 2018 ends on July 15. But we completed our mission after the halftime break, so I'm happy.

Defending on the number of forwards Hierro chhoses, Spain's midfield may rotate in a three or four-man central players.

The first half ended with Silva twice denied by a wall of Iranian defenders and half-time merely paused the inevitable as Spain set out in the second half with renewed intent.
