Marca report that Chelsea is the closest to signing the Brazil global as they are near to matching his €70 million (£62m) valuation.

Reports in Spain claim both clubs have opened negotiations for the 22-year-old, who is looking for more playing time.

Alisson, who joined Roma from Internacional in 2016, has also been linked with Liverpool.

At Liverpool, the goalkeeping situation has been eerily uncomfortable for a while now. It looked like the uncertainty surrounding the position would end at Anfield for good. At the moment it appears as if Thibaut Courtois is the best placed to battle Keylor Navas for the number one jersey after Madrid ran into difficulties over their pursuits of David De Gea and Alisson.

Thibaut Courtois ever since replacing Petr Cech as Chelsea's first choice goalkeeper has never endeared himself much to the fanbase.

Meanwhile, signing a top-class replacement for Courtois is also imperative, with Alisson a viable, long-term target.

The 26-year-old has been stalling on signing a new contract with us and him not committing to the club is affecting our plans for next season.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, have only been willing to pay €40 million for him. Till then, Chelsea could possibly reach an agreement with Roma to take a step closer to beating Liverpool to the player's signature.

The Spanish publication says that while the Brazilian keeper would prefer a move to Madrid, Chelsea are now his likeliest destination due to the European champions reluctance to meet Roma's asking price.
