The potential move for Lucas Torreira has been in the pipeline for a month but the midfielder's impressive performances in the World Cup would have made the transfer all the more exciting.

According to a report from respected football expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Arsenal are keen on signing Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes this summer, but the Gunners should be wary of bringing the Portugal global to the Emirates.

The 22-year-old will become Unai Emery's fourth signing of the transfer window, after Sokratis (Borussia Dortmund), Bernd Leno (Bayer Leverkusen) and Stephan Lichtsteiner (released by Juventus) arrived earlier. But, Arsenal now seem to be leading the race to sign him.

The Sun reported recently that a £25m fee has already been agreed with Sampdoria and personal terms over a four-year contract have also been settled on with Torreira's representatives so all that remained was for the midfielder to undergo his medical.

And then there's Sampdoria's Lucas Torreira, who is still in Russian Federation with Uruguay after they reached the quarter-finals.
