Squamish RCMP said the trio, in their late 20s and early 30s, were swimming in one of the icy pools that form part of Shannon Falls, a 335-metre waterfall about 60 kilometres north of Vancouver.

The other two victims are believed to be Megan "Mindy" Scraper and Alexey Lyakh of Vancouver, according to social media posts from a friend who witnessed the accident on the trail.

Last year, Gamble, Lyakh and another group member were banned from US federal land for five years after pleading guilty to walking on a sensitive hot spring in Yellowstone National Park and other crimes at parks across the west of America.

The social media stars had traveled around Canada, the US, Europe, India, Thailand, Cambodia, Nepal, Indonesia, Vietnam, Mexico, Peru, Argentina and Brazil. "Your bright personality will be greatly missed", one person posted on Facebook.

Squamish Search and Rescue (SAR), Lions Bay SAR, BC Ambulance, Squamish Fire, TEAAM, BC Parks, and Squamish RCMP attended the scene in order to coordinate search efforts.

Underwater dive teams worked hard on Wednesday undertaking a "complex recovery" of the bodies from a hard-to-access pool, according to an RCMP release. Shannon Falls runs through a number of pool systems, and the one which the three had gone into was accessible, Banks said.

In 2016, Gamble, Lyakh and another group member, Justis Price Brown, were fined and jailed for a week after their out-of-bounds hike to a hot spring in Yellowstone National Park in the US.

None of the three people involved have been found at this time, but the search will continue through the night and into tomorrow when specialized RCMP and SAR teams will be on-site. They fell the equivalent of 10 stories, officials said.

Squamish Search and Rescue spokesman John Willcox said a young woman was swept into one of the pools about noon Tuesday.

They end up by the lovely granite that's been carved by the water over hundreds of years but the buildup of lichen makes the area slick, Willcox says, adding dogs and people have slipped into the water but have been helped out.

"Unless you have the knowledge of that area, the expertise and the right equipment you should not be up there", Banks said.

In recent years, he also worked as an instructor in a business that aims to teach people how to build a popular account on Instagram.
