Belgium ran out 2-1 winners against Brazil to end the Selecao's World Cup at the quarterfinal stage on Friday night, sending Neymar's side home from Russian Federation and putting Roberto Martinez's team into the semifinals.

Brazil substitute Renato Augusto pulled one back for the five-time champions, reducing Belgium's lead to 2-1. "We can't wait [for Brazil]".

It all adds up to a semifinal match against France on Tuesday (Wednesday NZT) in St. Petersburg.

Kevin De Bruyne scored Belgium's second goal against Brazil.

"They seem like they have a few leaders". It's going to give you pleasure. "I know we have a chance but I also know that it's very tough to stop them as a whole, not just Neymar". It has created a nice memory and we should treasure it.

The Manchester City man put through his own net in the first half before Kevin De Bruyne struck as Brazil were dumped out at the quarter-final stage of the World Cup.

With all the talent and Brazilian coach Tite's disposal, the vortex of Neymar ended up weakening their collective effort, whereas Hazard has had the exact opposite effect on Belgium.

But as Belgian legs exhausted, Brazil spurned several great chances to push the match into extra-time, Augusto drilling inches wide and Coutinho skewing his effort off target from Neymar's pass.

"This was the biggest test for us, " De Bruyne said.

But when Belgium countered on the half hour, it was with devastating effect.

Lukaku combined beautifully with De Bruyne in the 31st minute to increase their tally. Former France and Manchester United star Eric Cantona led the critics in calling for Neymar to concentrate on football rather than rolling around on the floor like he'd narrowly survived an assassination attempt.

Tite replaced the ineffective Willian with Roberto Firmino at halftime and soon after changed Jesus for Douglas Costa.

From there on, Brazil laid siege to Belgium's box, taking 26 shots in all to Belgium's eight. Three touches later, De Bruyne had the ball on his right foot with far too much sight of goal. Brazil followed their pattern of launching attacks from the left with Neymar, Coutinho and Marcelo combining well to find goal but Belgium's defence was compact.
