"I had my chances to win here a few years ago". He has lost the previous five but impressed in their most -recent meeting, in Basel past year, when he won the opening set. However, fellow Australian Nick Kyrgios, who also advanced into the third round following his straight set win over Dutchman Robin Haase, believes De Minaur may give the No. 2 seed a bit of a scare.

Roger Federer and Serena Williams will be expected to maintain their flawless progress at Wimbledon as the title favourites head into the fourth round looking to survive the tournament's giant-killing carnage on Monday. The match is scheduled to conclude on Saturday.

Those are all 30-plus and battle-hardened - as are Gilles Simon and the world No 1, Nadal.

Serena Williams ran her Wimbledon winning streak to 17 matches and moved into the fourth round with a 7-5, 7-6 (2) victory over 62nd-ranked Kristina Mladenovic of France, thanks in part to 13 aces.

The eight-time champion and No 1 seed next faces 22nd-seeded Adrian Mannarino of France, who beat Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 6-3, 4-6, 5-7, 6-3. In the women's draw it is being generated by a mix of old and young aspirants after the filleting of the top 10 which left only seventh seed Karolina Pliskova upright after six days.

Williams will equal Margaret Court's record of 24 Grand Slam titles if she wins Wimbledon for the third time in the last four years.

"This is only my second serious tournament back", Williams, who is returning from a maternity leave, said.

"I really take every match one at a time, not necessarily as it will be my last, but I try hard every time", Federer told BBC afterward.

As more heavy rains are expected throughout the next few days, many have been trying to get creative with ways of helping. In a Friday evening tweet he described this option as "less likely to work, given tricky contours, but great if it does".

It's the first time in the Open era that none of the top five women's seeds have made the last 16 of a Slam.

Venus had rallied from a set down in her first two matches.

Since tennis turned professional in 1968, this is the worst showing at Wimbledon by the women's seeds.

Monfils will next face eighth-seeded Kevin Anderson, who beat No. 25 Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany 6-3, 7-5, 7-5 after losing just eight of 61 points on his first serve. I honestly think he can cause some damage the next round. "I don't know how far I will go in this tournament, but I'm confident with my game at this time", the Argentine said.

Williams is the fourth former women's champion to get knocked out, joining Maria Sharapova, Petra Kvitova and last year's victor Garbine Muguruza.

Zverev, playing for the third day in succession, was shocked by Latvian qualifier Ernests Gulbis, ranked 138, in a gruelling five sets, 7-6 (7/2), 4-6, 5-7, 6-3, 6-0.

French Open semi-finalist Keys struggled for most of the match as she committed 48 unforced errors in a disappointing display.
