A Twitter user, Lisa Wilkinson, quoted Australian medical expert Dr Richard Harris who examined the 13 Mu Pa Academy members in the cave as saying that the weakest boys would be brought out first. However, there has been no official word on this so far.

In this undated photo released by Royal Thai Navy on Saturday, July 7, 2018, Thai rescue team members walk inside a cave where 12 boys and their soccer coach have been trapped since June 23, in Mae Sai, Chiang Rai province, northern Thailand.

The Thai Navy Seals posted on their Facebook page that four of the boys had been rescued.

In neat blue handwriting, 11-year-old Chanin Viboonrungruang, the youngest of the group, told his parents not to worry, and said he was looking forward to eating fried chicken.

The first boy taken from the cave was Mongkol Boonpiem, 13, who emerged at 5.37pm local time.

"Now and in the next three or four days, the conditions are flawless [for evacuation] in terms of the water, the weather and the boys' health", Narongsak in a press conference on Sunday.

A former Navy SEAL and combat swimmer said that the risky and harrowing rescue of a soccer team trapped in a flooded Thailand cave was comparable to climbing the tallest mountain in the world. Time is of the essence, though, as heavy monsoons are expected to cause a rise in water levels in the cave.

Danish volunteer Ivan Karadzic owns a diving school in Koh Tao and told the Sydney Morning Herald that conditions underground in the Tham Luang Nang Non cave are treacherous.

Their plight transfixed Thailand and the rest of the world, as authorities struggled to locate them and then devise a plan to get the boys - aged between 11 and 16 - and their 25-year-old coach out.

"We will still maintain our planned mission and the two main obstacles are time and water", a spokesperson said.

That suggests it has had difficulty putting away its opponents, but it also means it is excelling during the biggest moments. England's Harry Kane will face a familiar opponent in the World Cup semi-final when the Three Lions face Croatia .

The group became trapped on June 23 when they started exploring the caves after going on a picnic following football practice.

But for many in Thailand, Mr Ekapol, who left monkhood three years ago, is an nearly divine force, sent to protect the boys as they go through this ordeal.

"The boys are physically and mentally fit to come out".

Those conditions won't last if the rain resumes, he said. His colleagues said they would "not let the sacrifice of our friend go to waste".

"They've been raining for the last four to five hours and the concern is that water is running straight back down into the cave and there are big concerns that that could in some way hamper this rescue effort".

"Today is the D-Day for the rescuers", said Narongsak Osottanakorn, the outgoing governor of Chiang Rai province.

The Thai defence ministry said a team from a Musk firm with drilling and exploration know-how should reach the cave on Sunday.

"Very fearless and talented people!" he tweeted.

The journey is set to be hard for both the boys, who can not dive or swim, as well as the experienced divers due to low visibility and strong currents. "You don't need to be anxious about me".
