BREXIT BREAKDOWN: UK Foreign Minister QUITS, Theresa May Facing REVOLT

This is the first time Mr Barnier has spoken about his lost negotating partner since the resignation, which triggered a huge Cabinet reshuffle after Boris Johnson followed shortly behind.

Jeremy Hunt arrives for a Cabinet meeting chaired by British Prime Minister Theresa May at 10 Downing Street on June 5, 2018 in London, England.

El Pais says "differences over Brexit break the British government". "The trouble is that I have practiced the words over the weekend and find that they stick in the throat". European Union officials have warned Britain repeatedly that time is running out to seal a deal spelling out the terms of the divorce and a post-split relationship. This policy will be bad for our country and bad for the party. However, should she survive such a challenge, Conservative Party rules prevent her opponents from making another try to unseat her for at least a year.

After the meeting, senior lawmakers said they did not expect the prime minister to face a vote of no confidence, although some Conservatives were still saying that she should go.

Ms Caulfield, who backed Leave although her Lewes constituency voted to Remain, was the vice-chairman for women.

But others argued that May had adopted the most realistic plan after losing her parliamentary majority in an ill-judged election a year ago, leaving her reliant on a small Northern Irish party to govern.

The plan agreed at May´s country retreat at Chequers would involve Britain pursuing a "UK-EU free trade area" for goods that would involve regulatory alignment with the EU.

The escalating crisis is casting new doubt on May's political future, with Brexit proponents saying her "soft" plan would force the United Kingdom into the worst of all positions; remaining locked in the union's open border scheme without any voting power.

Government unity began to fray within hours.

And in a rather dramatic fashion, news broke mid-way through the interview.

The boys, ages 11-16, and their 25-year-old coach became stranded when they went exploring inside after a practice game. Four ambulances and a convoy of other vehicles arrived at the cave site Tuesday morning as rains hit the region.

European Union officials say they will respond to the proposals once they have seen details.

It would have been amusing (though in keeping with the joke British politics has become) to imagine him laughing as he wrote: 'It is with deep regret that I must inform you...' all the while knowing his only real concern was the upcoming clash in Moscow.

"Brexit should be about opportunity and hope", Johnson said in a scathing resignation letter that was echoed in headlines in a number of Britain's national newspapers.

Britain and the European Union hope to reach broad agreement by October so the national parliaments of the remaining countries can ratify a deal before Britain leaves. The timetable looks increasingly optimistic.

The man leading the UK's negotiating team, David Davis, resigned late on Sunday night, saying that he did not agree with the UK's proposals, so was the wrong person to be going into negotiations with them.

Opposition Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn said the government was incapable of delivering Brexit.

"I like Theresa May, I think she's a good prime minister", Davis said. It fell as much as 0.7 percent on Monday after Johnson's resignation.

Dominic Raab, a Brexit supporter and former housing minister, was appointed to replace Davis only days before negotiations in Brussels are due to resume next week. She did not immediately name a replacement for Johnson.

To trigger a no-confidence vote in the PM, 15% of Tory MPs must write to the chairman of the backbench 1922 Committee, now Sir Graham Brady.

May has said she will fight off any attempt to unseat her.
