The Hollywood Reporter has revealed the galaxy's smoothest swindler will be returning for Star Wars: Episode IX as Billy Dee Williams is confirmed to reprise his role in the final installment of the sequel trilogy.

Donald Glover has yet to comment on whether or not his work in Solo: A Star Wars Story is directly responsible for the return of the original Lando. Those rumors only gained speed when Williams bowed out of an upcoming sci-fi and pop culture convention later this summer, citing a "conflict with a movie schedule".

Williams first made his debut as the suave galactic gambler who went on to become an administrator of Cloud City in 1980's Empire Strikes Back. Per THR's sources, Williams will indeed be returning to the Star Wars universe for the first time since 1983's Return of the Jedi.

Star Wars: Episode IX, which is helmed by The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams, is set to rocket into theaters December 20, 2019.

Donald Glover did a fantastic interpretation of Billy Dee Williams, who gave the role such a unique swagger back in the day, which is why it makes us so very happy to announce that Williams will be returning to the role for the now untitled Episode IX. Star Wars: Episode IX will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Abrams, Bad Robot, and Lucasfilm. Last week, Keri Russell, a frequent Abrams collaborator also joined the cast in an undisclosed role.
