Netflix has improved its episode downloading functionality with the launch of its new Smart Downloads feature.

Note that the Smart Downloads feature is activated only when you're using Wi-Fi, and not on cellular connectivity.

Basically, if you've downloaded one or more episodes in a series, Smart Downloads will delete the episode you've just finished and automatically download the next episode in the series.

Smart Downloads deletes Season 1, Episode 1, and automatically downloads Season 1, Episode 4.

Croatia ends Russia's run in shootout
By all accounts, this is the glamorous semi-final considering the quality of talent between the sides. And what now, after the heart-breaking quarter-finals defeat to Croatia on penalties.

The new feature is starting to roll out for Android devices today and we're told that it will arrive on iOS devices "later this year". This tells the Netflix application that you're now watching the season and they want to reduce the friction you may encounter from continuing the binge session. "Whether it is smart downloading or viewing a mobile preview, we realize the best part of Netflix is connecting with the stories you will love in an easier and more fun way".

Netflix wants to start keeping your downloads fresh for you. If for any reason you want to disable Smart Downloads, you can do so from the download section or settings menu within the Netflix app. The feature is now live for Android phones and tablets. This whole process is done one episode at a time with Netflix's Chief Content Officer saying it is aimed at those who enjoy watching a TV show while commuting to or from work. We assume it will delete the final few episodes from your device and then simply not download anything after, but you'll have to test it out to see if that's true.

A download status bar will appear on the screen when a new episode is downloading, and users will be notified when the download is complete.

It's limited to episodic TV series, not movies, standup specials or other kinds of programming.
