Zsa Zsa, the World's Ugliest Dog, dies at age 9

A nine-year-old English bulldog has died just weeks after winning the title of World's Ugliest Dog.

Facebook Zsa Zsa, the World's Ugliest Dog, tragically passed away just days after winning her esteemed title, her devastated owner confirmed Tuesday afternoon.

Zsa Zsa's 15 minutes of fame was extended when Brainard brought her on the Today show in June to celebrate her victory. "It's kind of like when she won [the World's Ugliest Dog contest]".

Brainard told TODAY that Zsa Zsa's passing was "devastating".

After her big win, Zsa Zsa's family said, "We are so excited for her, she deserves this".

"It was sweet. She was waving at her", Brainard shared with TODAY.

Brainard said she named the pooch after Hungarian actress Zsa Zsa Gabor because she liked to lie on the couch "like a attractive model". "We were all saying our goodbyes".

The 2018 contest was the 30th annual competition and helps raise awareness for dog adoption.

"She knew she was special".

The contest sounds more negative than it is - its objective is to raise awareness of pet adoption and to show that all dogs are handsome in their own way, and worthy of love.
