The Stop Trump Coalition accused the president of being "too scared to face protestors".

Mr Trump said he thought Britons "like me a lot". The president said on Tuesday, "I think they like me a lot in the United Kingdom".

"If Trump truly wanted to emulate Churchill, he would celebrate the peace and prosperity of Europe and seek to strengthen rather than destroy trans-Atlantic ties", said Amanda Sloat, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and a former State Department official in the Obama administration.

A campaign is also underway to get "American Idiot", a 2004 song by the US punk rock band Green Day, to the top of the UK Singles Chart.

A coalition known as Together Against Trump has been the chief organizer of the opposition effort.

"The pictures of children being held in what appear to be cages are deeply disturbing", May stated to the House of Commons.
