Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam, sentenced to jail for corruption, are likely to be arrested mid-air, even before they land in Lahore on Friday evening, reports suggested. Over 10,000 police officers have been posted in Lahore for what is expected to be a dramatic homecoming for the three-time prime minister who wants to mobilise his party ahead of general elections on July 25.

Supporters of Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party say they will march to the airport there, where the former prime minister is due to land, in defiance of a ban on all public rallies.

The news was confirmed by Kulsoom's son, Hussain Nawaz.

Former Punjab CM Shehbaz Sharif, who is also Nawaz Sharif's brother and president of PML-N, will lead the rally from Lohari Gate at 3pm.

About the concerns expressed by the PML-N and PPP, Barrister Zafar said everybody had freedom of speech.

The return comes a week after the accountability court verdict against them sentencing Nawaz 11-year prison, and eight years to Maryam Nawaz in the Avenfield properties case.

Turns out, Maryam will be the first convicted woman prisoner to be taken into custody by Pakistan's anti-corruption body, the Islamabad-based National Accountability Bureau (NAB), reported The News International.

Convicted son-in-law of Nawaz Sharif held in Rawalpindi
Abbasi told the media, "The court has sentenced Sharif to 10 years of imprisonment and fined him 8 million pounds". Sharif said Kulsoom may regain consciousness before he leaves for Lahore on Friday.

"Despite seeing the bars of prison in front of my eyes, I am going to Pakistan", Sharif told Pakistani journalists this week in London, where he vowed to re-assert "civilian supremacy". "The Election Commission of Pakistan must act and order release of our detained workers".

Speaking to media persons outside London's Harley Street Clinic, Hussain said that his mother opened her eyes for a few seconds only to close them again; however, she is in a better state now and doctors have adjusted the settings on the ventilator.

Following the arrests in Lahore a day earlier, a large number of PML-N workers protested outside police stations and key party leaders - Saad Rafique, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Pervaiz Malik - held an emergency press conference at 3:30am.

After the Supreme Court ousted Sharif last July, the courts barred him from heading the PML-N party he founded.

Security has also been beefed up in the provincial capital ahead of PML-N leaders arrival.

PML-N leaders claimed that around 300 workers were arrested from Rawalpindi on Tuesday, while several hundred others had been picked up from Lahore and other cities.

"Those who think they can scare us.open your ears and hear this: we are winning this election", Shehbaz Sharif told reporters in Lahore on Thursday.
