Israel launches air strikes on three Syria military facilities

If Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is thinking of striking a deal with Russian Federation regarding the future of Syria, he'd better think again, cautioned a senior United States senator.

Asked to summarise Israeli policy on Syria, Mr Keyes said: "We don't get involved in the civil war. We will act against anyone who acts against us".

In a related context, Shoygu called on Israel and Iran to exercise restraint, saying that a military confrontation between Israel and Iran in Syria would lead to instability in the region.

On the other hand, Shoigu said that the USA is trying to destabilize the situation in Syria and to prolong the crisis in it, indicating that Washington hasn't allocated any money to help the Syrian civilians who have been affected by the war.

The Israeli military said in a statement that it hit three targets in retaliation for an incursion on Wednesday of a Syrian drone which was shot down over northern Israel.

The Israeli and Russian military have had a coordination mechanism up and running since 2015 to prevent possible conflicts. He said a stray drone was "not common".

He added that Israel expects Syria to strictly observe a 1974 deal that set out a demilitarized zone along their frontier and limited the number of forces each side can deploy within 25 kilometers (15 miles) of the zone.

But on Tuesday, Israel also signalled openness to eventual ties with Syria under Assad, a tacit acknowledgement that he was re-consolidating power as he beats back the rebels.

There were no reports of casualties afrer the attack, either from Israel or Syria.

Netanyahu's government has made clear it would not cede the Golan now and has been lobbying for U.S. recognition of Israel's claim of sovereignty there.

This is the second time this week that Syria has reported intercepting Israeli missiles, and sustaining a military attack without any casualties.

The pro-Damascus newspaper al-Watan said on Thursday the army sent reinforcements to launch a "broad military operation" and bring all the province under state rule.
