Page's lawyer Amy Jeffress said in a statement that the committee issued a subpoena on Saturday without providing Page with the scope of the interview and before she was able to view the materials that had been produced to Congress, such as her anti-Trump text messages exchanged with Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Peter Strzok.

Two former Federal Bureau of Investigation officials who worked on the Russian Federation probe may be getting "cold feet" ahead of planned appearances on Capitol Hill this week, US President Donald Trump claimed in a tweet on Tuesday.

During FBI agent Peter Strzok's closed-door interview with lawmakers last month, House Republicans seemed to care more about a relationship he had with a colleague and probing the Mueller investigation than they did about Russian Federation interfering with a US election.

"Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte said Page had "no excuse" for not appearing, and threatened to have her charged with contempt if she did not show up to testify by Friday".

Trump has seized on Page and Strzok's inflammatory texts, which were detailed in a report by the Justice Department's internal watchdog last month, to paint the FBI and Mueller's investigation as biased. "In fact, Lisa and I went to the Federal Bureau of Investigation today to review the materials that were previously produced to Congress relating to her proposed interview, but after waiting for more than three hours, we were not provided with any documents".

The top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Jerrold Nadler (N.Y.), suggested Wednesday that "the real reason" Republicans were weighing contempt measures against Page was to "set up a dramatic thing" before Strzok's public interview Thursday.

Trump Says Europe Is 'Losing Its Culture' Due to Immigration - Lauretta Brown
There are three factors that are holding up any plan for the U.K.to leave the European Union bloc entirely. However, she has support from moderates and there has been no formal challenge to her leadership so far.

Trump tweeted Wednesday: "Ex-FBI LAYER Lisa Page today defied a House of Representatives issued Subpoena to testify before Congress!" It was then that he heard the news that she may defy the subpoena and refuse to testify and condemned it as a "total disgrace".

Page's attorney said that she and Page did not have enough time to prepare for the meeting, and that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was less than accommodating when they went to go over materials had been given to Congress. "Congressional subpoenas for testimony are not optional. It's mandatory. She needs to comply", he added.

Text messages between the two that investigators found on Page's work cell phone included numerous derogatory references to Trump. "All she is asking is to be treated as other witnesses have under the committees' own rules", Jeffress said.

Jeffress said in a statement prior to the contempt threat that Page could not appear without first having access to Federal Bureau of Investigation documents that the committees already possessed, and that they had ignored her efforts to find a later date for the deposition.

Ryan, asked about Page's decision not to testify Wednesday, said, "I am very disturbed by this".

Page later left the Federal Bureau of Investigation but Strzok remains. He was interviewed privately by lawmakers on the two committees for 11 hours June 27.
