"I have always believed that "H" (Harry Maguire) is a very good player, he has shown that since the day he came to Leicester and the season he had past year", Mahrez said at his first news conference as a Manchester City player.

Riyad Mahrez believes that Harry Maguire is destined to play for one of England's leading clubs after the centre back's eye-catching performances at the World Cup.

Mahrez, speaking at his unveiling at City, said: "I believe "H" is a very good player".

Yet after his club record £60million move to the Etihad Stadium he joins a team already bristling with attacking talent.

He added: "I don't think much about this, the most important is I'm here, happy and starting a new challenge and a new life".

And Mahrez - who spent the previous year agitating for a move away from Leicester - has stirred the fire.

And sure enough, barely 24 hours after England lost their semi-final with Croatia, the Special One is being linked with a move for the Slab-headed One.

Manchester City player Rihad Mahrez has risked the ire of his new colleagues by insisting Harry Maguire "deserves a move to a higher club" amid links of the Leicester City star moving to Old Trafford. It's a Champions League team, who want to win trophies every season.

"Of course he deserves to play higher but Leicester are a good club as well, so it's him who has to decide and we will see". "I'm very confident in myself and I hope to help this team to improve".

"I signed for City when I was 33 and it was a different time - the Club had been up and down through the divisions; the squad was different, and the playing style was different - and I was a little bit old!" We didn't think we were going to lose but we did. "It's a good thing".

Maguire has shown the requisite mental strength to play in the big games for his country and that would be easily transferred into the top of the table and Champions League clashes. It is a goal.

City were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Liverpool last season and Mahrez said: 'They have everything to try and win it.

"That's why I'm here, why I made the decision to come here, because I want to be part of this".
