Since Twitter announced that it would be working to reduce questionable accounts, President Trump has lost about 100,000 of his 53.4 million followers, while former president Barack Obama is down nearly 400,000 of his 104 million followers as of Wednesday, according to a report from Washington Post.

It follows renewed scrutiny over fake news and users on social media.

Twitter made an announcement on Wednesday, as we also reported yesterday that Twitter is letting go of locked accounts and hence locked accounts will no longer be included in people's follower numbers. By late Thursday night, the president had officially lost close to 196,000 followers as the purge kept on going.

Besides that of PM Narendra Modi's personal account, even the official account of the PMO saw a drop of over 1 lakh followers.

Locked accounts are those identified to have involved sudden suspicious changes in activity. Twitter said it wants its users to have confidence that the follower numbers are "meaningful and accurate".

Since Twitter started purging locked accounts on Thursday, the tweeter-in-chief has lost 300,000 followers.
