Aston Martin's insane V8 Cygnet revealed

Speaking of wheels, they're up from piddly 16s to meaty 19-inch rims, encasing beefy brakes and nearly bursting from the Cygnet's diminutive bodyshell.

Indeed, with just 97 horsepower on tap, the unmodified Cygnet definitely bucked the trend for Aston Martin, though that was primarily by design.

Aston Martin vice president and Special Operations officer David King said the model, which is claimed to have a ideal 50:50 weight distribution, illustrates the brand's "fun side". It was built by Q by Aston Martin, the company's commission service. Now weighing 1,375kg with all fluids in versus 920 kg stock, the V8 Cygnet has a lot more weight to push around. The naturally aspirated mill is mounted to a custom bulkhead and transmission tunnel, while the subframe and suspension components carry over from the previous-generation Vantage.

A one-off city vehicle designed by Aston Martin is set to make its global debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Aston Martin's insane V8 Cygnet revealed

This unique auto was built by Q by Aston Martin in conjunction with one of its customers, and the design department has somehow crammed a naturally-aspirated 4.7-litre V8 engine under the small bonnet. Aston has even performance-figured it, reaching 60mph in just 4.2sec and a (no doubt frightening) top speed of 170mph - over 60mph more than the standard Cygnet.

Seeing a regular Cygnet is rare. The short hood is the same, and though there's new mesh in the grille it's the standard opening from the Cygnet. Aston Martin is bringing it along to the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend, though our hopes for a single-model racing series of roaring Cygnets probably won't come to fruition. A removable steering wheel makes the cut too, and sits in front of an instrument binnacle lifted from the Vantage.

Power is rated at an identical 430bhp as the V8 Vantage S, but thanks to the compact body, the kerb weight is just 1375kg, giving the V8 Cygnet a 313bhp/tonne power-to-weight ratio.

Inside there are familiar Vantage dials on the carbon dash, Alcantara trim, shapely Recaro buckets for two and, reinforcing the competition potential of the V8 Cygnet, FIA fire extinguisher and four-point harnesses.

Pogba offered "sensational Manchester United exit" by his Agent
