Trump said he saved the United States $1.5 billion (almost R14 billion) on the $3.9 billion deal with Boeing for two new presidential aircraft.

The White House has previously claimed that Trump's tough talk with Boeing on the cost of the planes had saved taxpayers more than US$1.4 billion.

Boeing's initial price for the planes was $5.3 billion, later reduced to $3.9 billion after Trump emphasized the "need to minimize the cost of replacing" the existing jets, the White House said statement Wednesday.

US President Donald Trump elaborated on his plans for an Air Force One upgrade, announcing that the new billion-dollar American presidential planes will boast enhanced interiors and exteriors.

Air Force One has featured the blue-and-white color scheme since the administration of president John F. Kennedy. Boeing chief executive Dennis Muilenburg and Trump have met multiple times to discuss the Air Force One contract.

In an interview with CBS Tuesday, the President said: 'It's going to be the top of the line, the top in the world.

Trump says the familiar baby blue colour on the presidential aircraft will give way to a red, white and blue colour scheme.

And Trump says these will be jets of a different color.

Boeing (ba) finally secured the $3.9 billion deal to build two new planes to be used as Air Force One by the US president.
