Library partners with Google on new job searching feature

For now, the USA tech giant is not charging employment sites to feature their listings nor using the service to place any extra adverts beyond those that normally appear within its results. Google also said it will be publishing open documentation for all job providers, showing how their openings can be shown in the search engine. Of course, it remains to be seen as to how successful Google's play in the job market space pans out, particularly given that its original aim for the USA rollout was to help "the players in the ecosystem to be more successful".

Google's job search feature is now live for job-hungry Google searchers in the U.K. The powerful job search tool has been helping connect jobseekers with employers in the USA for a little over a year, and now netizens in the U.K. can search for new vocational opportunities straight from the Google Search homepage.

Job seekers will be able to ask Google to find "jobs near me" by searching a job title and location (left). It even lets you access salary information, reviews and ratings of the employer and different options to apply for a job. The company has already teamed with with Reed for the launch, but you'll also be seeing listings from places like Guardian Jobs, Haymarket and Totaljobs.

The feature, which has been available in the US for just over a year, can be found on desktop, mobile browsers, or the Google Search app as of today.

The notifications can be stopped easily via Google Search.'s director of marketing Mark Rhodes said: "Early signs from our testing with Google show jobseekers arriving at via this new search experience are application-ready, with a high level of intent, so we anticipate seeing a positive impact on the quality and volume of applications we supply to our recruitment clients". The results should then show relevant listings within the search page pulled from all partnered sites. If you're logged in to your Google account, it'll also use Google Maps to show you how long your commute will take.
