In all, Hoskins hit 37 homers in two rounds, with the deepest two going 466 and 463 feet.

The winning homer came on the second pitch Harper faced, a high-soaring blast over the centerfield wall, and streamers were fired from the top of the ballpark to celebrate the triumph.

Long and towering home runs are part of Kyle Schwarber's repertoire during his first four seasons, with a few of them as major moments in a memorable era for the franchise.

It was a dramatic walk-off from Schwarber, but he actually had 30 more seconds to play with because he hit two homers farther than 440 feet and was awarded some extra time.

All the while, the hometown crowd witnessing the historic spectacle rose louder and louder, reaching a crescendo at the end of that magic minute.

It was at this point that Harper went completely out of his mind.

As Bryce Harper was besting Schwarber in the Derby's final, Twitter was filled with serious allegations of Home Run Derby misconduct.

Vladimir Putin proud of Russia's hosting of tournament
The Qatari emir said his country would apply all its efforts to making a success of the 2022 World Cup. We hope to enjoy a fruitful partnership until 2022.

Putin: Trump was 'of no interest' to Russian Federation before 2016 election
But, he tweeted: 'I never would have thought that the US President would become one of the ones getting played by old KGB hands'. But several Republicans who don't typically buck the president raised concerns, shocked by Monday's performance.

US intel chief stands by assessment of Russian meddling
Many US critics had called for the summit's cancellation after new revelations surrounding the alleged election meddling. Earlier, Trump blamed his own country's past " foolishness and stupidity " for the two powers' hostile relations.

He can only hope this helps him get back into the swing.

The matchups were determined by the number of home runs hit heading into the All-Star festivities. His teammates, Sean Doolittle and Max Scherzer, were the ones to present him with the Home Run Derby trophy, and Martinez lifted him off the ground in a giant bear hug.

But it's the Home Run Derby, so there is no reason to get too bent out of shape. Unfortunately, this writer's seats in right field proved just out of reach of any slugger's swings.

How cheap are Nationals tickets thanks to Bryce Harper? Of course, Thayer's poem ends in anticlimax: "There is no joy in Mudville-mighty Casey has struck out".

The crowd of 43,698 erupted at Nationals Park when Harper downed Muncy 13-12 with 1:11 left on the clock.

Late, Muncy attended Baylor University and became the first ever Baylor Bear to compete in the MLB Home Run Derby. As Harper has slumped, so have the Nationals. The stadium atmosphere sounded like a World Series atmosphere, at least from the television.
