The trailer for Doctor Who Season 11, starring Jodie Whittaker as the Time Lord's first female incarnation, was released at San Diego Comic Con Thursday.

Even the Doctor's costume was designed with inclusivity in mind.

While Whittaker made massive headlines by becoming the first woman to play the Doctor, her approach to the role remains the same as the previous performers in the part.

We've only seen glimpses of her character so far. She added, "It was like walking into my new home, but only on the doormat". "I've never approached a role thinking, 'How would a woman do this?' I've just approached it from my perspective". Hopefully, she adds, we won't still be having these conversations in 2020. "And that's why this [season] will be so layered - because of those reactions". "Any age, any gender, anyone can wear it!" she said, to applause from the crowd.

The line had a fashion show last night, showing off all of their latest threads, and wouldn't you know it - someone came out wearing the coat of the new 13th Doctor. But she's a pillar of hope. "What we want is for people to feel like we've got the range and variety of Doctor Who this year". As Chibnall said, "It should be the most inclusive show on television".

As for exciting things to look our for in the upcoming episodes: "You're going to see a whole range of different stories, you're going to see historical time periods, you're going to see alien planets, you're going to see loads of new monsters, and you're also going to meet an awesome new Doctor", Chibnall added.

The show is aired around the world, and marked its 50th anniversary four years ago with a special episode screened simultaneously in almost 100 countries.

Chris Chibnall, creator of the English crime series Broadchurch, is the showrunner for the new season.

"This season is the best place for new Whovians to explore and discover", Chibnall said.

Unfortunately many fans took to Twitter following the panel to joke the screwdriver was eerily similar to a much naughtier item. Admitting it was a bit freakish to do press for a character before she played that person, it felt like a moment of truth being on the set of Capaldi's version of the TARDIS.

One curious thing about the Doctor's new Companions, Cole and Gill and the non-attending Bradley Walsh, is that they're not often referred to as Companions.

"It's just an organic progression", he said. Mandip Gill will play Yasmin, also called Yaz, who she described as a 19-year-old girl "who asked for more and got more-so be careful what you ask for-and went along on this adventure and found this family". Mainly, that the darker, more brooding elements of modern Doctor Who - the kind that have painted the Doctor as a frightening, all-powerful legend - are about to give way to something more grounded and fun. According to a press conference before the panel, the new season of Doctor Who won't feature any returning villains, monsters, aliens, or allies.

As for the actual decision to finally cast a woman as the Doctor, "It felt really simple and obvious", Chibnall said.

The ten-episode series will air in fall of 2018, and we're totally sure that no one will have any complaints about a woman Doctor by then.
