In their search for a center-back, Manchester United have reached Madrid and have reportedly asked about the availability of Atletico Madrid captain, Diego Godin.

Godin is considered one of the finest defenders on the planet.

However, The Sun say Mourinho now feels Godin used the Red Devils to broker a new Atletico contract instead.

Any hope that Manchester United would sign Diego Godin on transfer deadline day didn't last very long at all.

Godin has been at Madrid since 2010 and has made 350 appearances for the club.
