It is unknown if the child in the house was related to the couple, police say.

"There were two individuals in the home at the time that the plane went in", Sgt. Noemi Sandoval of the Payson Police Department said.

Duane Youd, from Payson in the USA state of Utah, carried out the astonishing attack just hours after he had been arrested for assaulting his wife, The Sun reports.

Seventeen-year-old Parker Youd said his father's last words to him were "I love you".

Just hours later, Youd took off from nearby Spanish Fork-Springville Airport and navigated the stolen aircraft in the direction of his neighbourhood, 15 miles away. Public records indicate Youd lives at the home where the plane crashed with his wife. The front of the home became engulfed in flames. The argument took place at American Fork Canyon, and both had reportedly been drinking.

According to authorities, Youd crashed the plane into the house in the wee hours of the morning on Monday.

United States grand jury: Predator priests in Pennsylvania had church protection
On multiple occasions, Pennsylvania priests would take their victims out of town with the goal of disorienting them. Meanwhile, bishops in Boston and Nebraska are investigating possible cases of sexual abuse in Catholic seminaries.

Police said on Facebook that a road is closed as authorities investigate.

Youd was arrested about 7.30pm Sunday after witnesses called police to report that he was assaulting his wife, Utah County Sheriff's Sgt Spencer Cannon said. That's why Sandoval told The Deseret News that the incident was a "miracle".

"We're going to go through and document the scene as it lies, then we're going to start getting removal of the airplane pieces out and start documenting those pieces as we get them removed", said Jason Aguilera, a senior NTSB Air Safety Investigator.

Most of the home was still intact but the front was badly damaged from the impact and resulting fire.

Reports indicate that Youd had agreed to attend six months of family counselling sessions as part of a plea agreement for domestic violence, in which he was charged with disorderly conduct.
