China's Military Is 'Likely' Training To Strike United States With Triad Attack

The report further stated that China is also building long-range bombers having nuclear capability, saying the Chinese air force "has been re-assigned a nuclear mission".

"Over the last three years, the [People's Liberation Army] has rapidly expanded its overwater bomber operating areas, gaining experience in critical maritime regions and likely training for strikes against USA and allied targets", the report says.

"US military aircraft, this is China. leave immediately and keep out to avoid any misunderstanding", a representative of the PLA said.

It is now focused on the "One Belt, One Road" initiative, a massive infrastructure plan to connect China with other countries in Asia, Africa and Europe.

Beijing's been spreading its influence for years in disputed areas of the South China Sea.

According to Thursday's report, China is working on a "stealthy, long-range strategic bomber with a nuclear delivery capability that could be operational within the next 10 years", in addition to the bombers it already operates.

The report highlights its increasing military capability, including defence spending estimated at $190bn (£150bn) - a third that of the US.

The report said that while the PLA had continued to extend operations, it was not clear what message Beijing was seeking to send by carrying out the flights "beyond a demonstration of improved capabilities".

The Pentagon says the Chinese military is "likely training for strikes" on US targets.

He also urged Brunson to serve as a "great patriot hostage" while he is jailed and criticized Turkey for "holding our wonderful Christian Pastor".

The report, which comes as the US and China spar over trade negotiations, said China increased its global defense spending to more than $190 billion in 2017, according to Reuters. "Certainly this is the People's Liberation Army's first overseas base and we will base troops there".

As CNN reported, Chinese President Xi Jinping has said he hopes to modernize China's military this year by "weeding out widespread corruption in the ranks and updating the country's military hardware".

The report notes the training is part of an attempt to leverage "China's growing economic, diplomatic, and military clout to establish regional preeminence and expand the country's worldwide influence".

The US military regularly seeks to demonstrate freedom of navigation by flying over the South China Sea.

"Should the United States intervene, China would try to delay effective intervention and seek victory in a high-intensity, limited war of short duration", the report warns.

The East China Sea and the South China Sea have been flashpoints for provocative military behaviour from China and its neighbours, to the ire of the US.

Officially, China advocates for a peaceful reunification with Taiwan, but it has never repudiated the use of military force, the document notes.

Despite tensions, in June, James Mattis became the first United States defence secretary to visit China since 2014.
