The company announced the upcoming change in an email to Prime members, noting that all pre-orders placed on or after August 28 will no longer receive a 10% discount, while any pre-orders placed before August 28 will still be eligible to receive the discount until the game is shipped.

One of Twitch's big perks for Amazon Prime members is going away: Universal ad-free viewing will no longer be part of Twitch Prime for new members, starting September 14. While Twitch Prime will still give away indie games to subscribers each month, as well as access to special emotes, the key value - watching Twitch without ads - has been removed.

Advertising is an important source of support for the creators who make Twitch possible.

Ultimately, the decision was about money, Twitch wrote in its blog, portraying the change as something that will help creators better rely on advertising "so they can get more support from their viewers for doing what they love". With ads, the platform and game creators can get a cut.

Twitch Prime members with monthly subscriptions will continue to get ad-free viewing until October 15; those who already have an annual subscription (or those who upgrade to an annual subscription before September 14) will continue with ad-free viewing until their next renewal date.

Of course, you can always sign-up for Twitch Turbo to gain ad-free viewing. And if you bought an annual subscription, you'll continue to be able to watch without ads until your next renewal date. Now that those benefits being slashed, specifically in the area of gaming, Prime feels like more of a luxury than anything else. You'll have 60 days to use the promo credit before it expires.

Now it's just a matter of seeing how much these changes will affect Amazon Prime's membership count.

Thanks to every Twitch Prime member for supporting Twitch and your favorite streamers.
