China's Defence Ministry has lodged a complaint with the United States about a Pentagon report that said China's military was likely training for strikes against the United States and its allies, saying it was "pure guesswork".

"We urge the U.S. side to abandon the outdated cold-war and zero-sum mentality..."

"The release of such reports by the USA side year after year has harmed mutual trust and is not in line with the common interests between China and the United States", said Wu Qian of the Ministry of National Defense.

"Over the past three years, the army quickly expanded the operating areas, freeboard bombers, gaining experience in critical marine areas and, probably, practicing strikes against targets of the U.S. and its allies", the report says.

The report said that while the PLA had continued to extend operations, it was not clear what message Beijing was seeking to send by carrying out the flights "beyond a demonstration of improved capabilities". Beijing's military budget for 2017 was about US$190 billion, according to a Pentagon report, far behind the US' annual budget of about US$700 billion.

The Chinese regime's Ministry of National Defense issued a statement on Friday blasting the Pentagon's new report, claiming that its military buildup is aimed at "upholding world peace and prosperity" and criticizing the United States as having a "cold war mentality".

Man City MF De Bruyne injured in training
The new show was premiered at a lavish event in Manchester on Wednesday evening with Pep Guardiola and his squad in attendance. De Bruyne scored eight goals and made 16 assists as City lifted the league title with record-breaking 100 points last season.

The report examines the "probable future course of military-technological development" of China's People's Liberation Army.

"It is an ironclad fact that Taiwan is a part of China", he said, "The Chinese military will as always stand firm in safeguarding China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits". It also added that "China's military expresses resolute opposition to this and has lodged stern representations with the U.S. side".

Brad Glosserman, a visiting professor at Tokyo's Tama University, said Monday that it's clear that the Chinese military is planning for contingencies that assume the US would be an adversary.

"The release of such reports by the US side year after year has harmed mutual trust and is not in line with the common interests between China and the United States", said Wu.

China, as a facilitator of world peace, a contributor to global development and a maintainer of worldwide order, has firmly taken the path of peaceful development and steadfastly pursued a national defense policy that is defensive in nature, he said.

He called on the USA to refrain from such irresponsible reports and make efforts to maintain stable growth of relations between the two countries and their militaries.
