Top seed Roger Federer advanced into his 150th tour-level final as he set up a blockbuster championship clash against Novak Djokovic of Croatia after defeating Belgian player David Goffin 7-6 (3), 1-1 on Saturday.

David Goffin's withdrawal due to injury afforded Roger Federer a walkover route into his eighth Cincinnati Masters final, with Novak Djokovic awaiting him in OH on Sunday.

The 10th-seeded Serbian first finished his rain-delayed third-round match against fifth-seeded Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 triumph, before ousting Canadian Milos Raonic 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in 2 hours, 29 minutes in the quarterfinals.

Overcoming a slow start, the Swiss player claimed the first set with a tiebreak and then Goffin received a medical timeout between sets for treatment on his right shoulder.

Djokovic, a five-time finalist who has never broken through, is aiming to lift the trophy at the only one of the Masters 1000 series events that he has never won.

"I played a cleaner third set. I'm glad that in the important points I played aggressively - that was important today".

"I think also I'm less stressed", she said.

And Djokovic seized his, leading 4-3 he broke the Cilic serve for a second time in the set dragging his opponent into the sort of baseline rallies that eventually force the errors and when Cilic's forehand faltered Djokovic was on the brink of victory.

"I have plenty of motivation".

In women's third-round action, reigning US Open champion Sloane Stephens was eliminated while Madison Keys, runner-up at Flushing Meadows previous year, moved on. I think it's very hard to win Masters 1000s. She has never won a Cincinnati title.

Wawrinka eventually ran out of energy in the third set, giving up his serve for the first time in the sixth game when he came to the net and could not get enough of his racquet on a Federer passing shot.

"I've played five finals here", Djokovic said.

"It's tough, I'm very pleased to reach the final once more here", Djokovic said. I played three match in a row last week, a three-setter, three-setter, and then finish with a tight match against Rafa. To see where I was also few weeks ago, I'm really happy to be here. He beat Karen Khachanov in three sets, completing a suspended match, and got a 7-6 (7), 6-4 win over Pablo Carreno Busta, who was playing his only match of the day.

"It's been a rollercoaster week with matches and the interruptions with the rain and all that's happened", Djokovic said.

Svitolina next faces Kiki Bertens, who completed the women's quarter-final lineup with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 win over Anett Kontaveit.

Raonic got an early break in the second and held serve for the win to take just his second set ever against Djokovic, and first on hardcourt in 11 tries. "So before the match, I'm less nervous than I used to be".
