"Our nation urgently needs additional treatment options for gonorrhea".

Gonorrhea diagnoses alone increased 67 percent and doubled among men.

Gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (MSM) made up nearly 70 percent of primary and secondary syphilis cases where the gender of the sex partner is known in 2017. More than 1.7 million cases were diagnosed in 2017, with 45 percent among 15- to 24-year-old females.

"We maintain our bridges and roads, and we see them on TV when they crumble".

The news follows a report earlier this month that an estimated 72,000 Americans had died from drug overdoses in 2017, according to a provisional count by the CDC's National Center for Health Statistics-a figure that would mark not only a dismal milestone, but also a almost 7% increase from the year before. But often, the infections go undiagnosed and untreated, and may lead to infertility, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth in infants, and increased HIV risk.

Experts at the 2018 STD Prevention Conference, where the new CDC numbers were presented in a Tuesday media briefing, chalk rising STD rates up to several factors.

Alcohol: no amount of alcohol is good for health
The country also has a large number of heavy drinkers, who consume more than 75ml per day or nearly every day of the week. It now appears that the one or two drinks a couple of times a week, touted for long as moderate drinking, isn't healthy.

Taylor Swift Pays Respect To The Late Aretha Franklin In Concert
As the sun rose on America's Motor City, the crowds were already waiting in line to say a final farewell to the Queen of Soul. Outside the museum, she said: "I know people are sad, but it's just celebrating - people dancing and singing her music".

The Morning Brew: Inhofe unsure about renaming building for McCain
In the statement , Senator McCain reflected on the privilege of serving his country and said he tried to do so honourably. Jeff Flake, who, like McCain, outraged the state's conservative base for bucking Trump on immigration and other issues.

A new report from the CDC says STDs are on the rise across the country. "Certainly, there's a lot more we could do". "You don't always see a crumbling public health infrastructure", said Michael Fraser, PhD, executive director, Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO).

CDC funding for prevention efforts has hovered around $157 million for the past 18 years, Harvey said.

"State and local STD programs are working with effectively half the budget they had in the early 2000s", Harvey said. "If our representatives are serious about protecting American lives, they will provide adequate funding to address this crisis".

Chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis can be cured with antibiotics.

In 2015, CDC began recommending health care providers prescribe a single shot of ceftriaxone accompanied by an oral dose of azithromycin to people diagnosed with gonorrhea. There has not yet been a confirmed treatment failure with the dual therapy.

The threat of untreatable gonorrhea persists in the United States, and reports of antibiotic resistant gonorrhea overseas have only reinforced those concerns. Gonorrhea is of particular concern to health experts because it is on the verge of becoming untreatable.
