What Arizona and Florida primary winners mean for November

Trump spared Arpaio a possible jail sentence previous year by pardoning his federal conviction stemming from immigration patrols. McSally's district in particular is expected to be one of the most competitive House races in November's general election.

On Wednesday morning, President Trump tweeted his support for DeSantis and described Gillum as a "failed socialist mayor" who had allowed crime to flourish.

If Gillum becomes governor in Florida and Democrats win majority control of the U.S. House in the midterm elections, his victory nearly certainly means the Democrats will lose whatever inhibitions they may have about impeaching the president. He defeated former Rep. Gwen Graham, daughter of longtime Democratic senator Bob Graham, and five other opponents.

It's a lesson that a clear message matters, as does political energy.

In a Gravis poll taken last month, DeSantis had a 3-point lead over Gillum in a hypothetical matchup.

DeSantis also came out fighting, criticizing Gillum as "way, way, way too liberal for the state of Florida". Bernie Sanders and a late infusion of cash from billionaires Tom Steyer and George Soros. The amount of money that's going to be spent in this state by November will probably be staggering.

"What has made Andrew's campaign so powerful is that he's not just working hard to win an election, he has laid out a vision for a new course for the state of Florida and our country", Sanders said Tuesday night. It should be pointed out that Republicans turned out in greater numbers for their gubernatorial primary.

Gillum unsuccessfully ran to be the chair of the Florida Democratic Party in 2010.

SB 10: Reaction to California Bail Reform
She said there's not enough protection in the law to ensure it doesn't perpetuate racial bias in the criminal justice system. Jerry Brown (D-Calif.) signed into law a bill that will eliminate the bail system for those awaiting trial.

"I think the Florida electorate is going to reject the politics of division", Gillum said in an interview with The Associated Press.

In an interview with Fox News correspondent Sandra Smith, DeSantis shared his thoughts on Gillum, referring to him as an "articulate spokesman for far left views". But he still has some work ahead for that to happen. He also won 61 percent of the county's precincts, including big percentages in the precincts around the University of Central Florida and the majority African American precincts in west Orlando and Pine Hills.

The former Air Force fighter pilot will now face off against Democrat Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema in the midterms, who won her primary race in a landslide after clinching 80-percent of the vote. Of course, there was much more activity in the GOP primary, so perhaps it's understandable, but it's something to watch in Arizona, a right-leaning state.

McSally was beating former state Sen. "He's doing things the way I like", Parke said.

The strategy worked, and many voters say that's what convinced them to support DeSantis.

McSally wasted no time taking on her Democratic opponent, calling the race "a choice between a doer and a talker, between a patriot and a protester". This race will likely get very ugly.

It's still unclear who will fill the veteran lawmaker's seat as his colleague Senator Jeff Flake is not seeking reelection.
