Erdogan to meet Putin on Syria conflict

Syria's government, amid growing tension between its ally Russian Federation and neighboring Turkey, is holding off on a planned offensive on a major rebel stronghold, giving Ankara more time to persuade armed groups to disperse.

Already hosting 3.5 million Syrians, Turkey says it can not take in more and has accused the West of abandoning it to the consequences of Assad's reconquest of Syria.

According to the report, Turkey was represented by Ibrahim Kalin, Mr Erdogan's special adviser; Germany by its national security adviser John Hacker; France by Philipe Etienne, senior diplomatic counselor for French President Emmanuel Macron; and Russian Federation by Yuri Ushakov, senior adviser to Mr Putin. "Syrian forces and we ourselves are simply reacting to the attacks coming from the zone of Idlib".

According to UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, there are about 10,000 militants from the terror groups Jabhat al-Nusra and Al-Qaeda in this region.

The United Nations has warned that an offensive in Idlib could trigger a humanitarian catastrophe in an area where 3 million people live.

Roughly half of the displaced are staying in camps, Dujarric said.

US ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley gave a stern waving at Security Council to Syrian government, Russian Federation and Iran over military operations in Idlib.

Idlib is the last remaining stronghold of various jihadist groups that once sought to overthrow the government of President Bashar Assad, with support from the US, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and other regional powers. Turkey has also gathered forces on its own borders to deter Syrian civilians fleeing the fighting.

Germany is ready to contribute to rebuilding Syria if a political solution was found for fair elections in the country, Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said Friday.

"We hope for the best but prepare for the worst, " UN Syria aid coordinator Panos Moumtzis said as he presented the contingency plan to reporters in Geneva on Thursday. "Therefore, we should continue our efforts to bring peace and stability to the region", said Çavuşoğlu at a joint news conference in Islamabad with Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

Idlib's most powerful armed faction is the Hayat Tahrir Al Sham (HTS), which Ankara officially designated a "terrorist" group last month.

"We will keep the refugees in Syria for the safety of both Turkey and European countries".

Syrian activists are reporting that new military reinforcements have arrived to beef up Turkish observation points inside Syria's last rebel bastion Idlib as a Syrian government offensive looms over the crowded enclave.

A meeting between the Russian, Iranian and Turkish leaders devoted to the Syrian issue was held last Friday, September 7, in Tehran.
