The new U.S. Open champion, Naomi Osaka, was a guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday and she talked for the first time about her whirlwind experience over the last week.

A few games later, Williams received another warning, this time for smashing her racket, and that second violation automatically cost her a point, leading to more arguing.

People who are supporting Ms. Williams and criticizing Ramos don't understand that players can swear about a decision, but as long as they don't prolong their complaining, good umpires do nothing because the player might be right.

Osaka was seen crying during the ceremony, and Williams appeared to lean over and say something in her ear, presumably to console her.

Though marred by controversy, the first Japanese to lift a Grand Slam has not let the impact her and has been giving a number of interesting interviews, further broadening her fan base.

But the U.S. Tennis Association and Women's Tennis Association have come out in support of Williams, which has angered the umpire community.

Much of the criticism of Williams has centred on how her actions had spoiled a precious moment for Osaka, who was even moved to apologise for beating the home favourite to a NY crowd angrily booing Ramos. "The WTA defense surprised me. If it's like this, let me know", Strycova said.

Make no mistake, Serena Williams is a force to be reckoned with.

She also called Ramos a "thief" for taking a point from her.

"There's no equality when it comes to what the men are doing to the chair umpires and what the women are doing, and I think there has to be some consistency across the board", Adams continued. She was later fined $17,000.

In a statement released by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), Ramos was called "one of the most experienced and respected umpires in tennis".

An analysis of the past 20 years of grand-slam events reveals that men have been handed 1,534 code violations, versus just 526 handed to women.

"We can not measure ourselves by what we think we should also be able to get away with".

It is true that Serena's coach was trying to signal her but Serena was in fact looking at the other side of the court and did not notice.
