We might finally have our first glimpse of the Clown Prince of Crime. Maybe Phoenix will be dropped into a Value-Added Tax of acid or something late in the film, but for the most part, it looks like we'll be examining a real human being, stripped of supervillainous accoutrements.

The first photo of Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker has been released and he looks sufficiently creepy as hell as the super villain.

On that note, according to a Hollywood Reporter story last month, both Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill are on their way out as Batman and Superman respectively in the DC Extended Universe.

Martin Scorsese was originally attached as producer, and early word about the script is that it has a lot in common with the kind of character work seen in movies like Taxi Driver and King Of Comedy.

'We Never Had Signals': Serena Williams Disputes Coaching Claims From US Open

Canelo Alvarez reacts to ending Gennady Golovkin's unbeaten record
Ultimate competitors in Canelo and Triple-G! "Could watch y'all fight any day". "I had hit close going into the 12th round". Golovkin was angered with the decision, the Kazakh storming out of the ring and refusing to do a post-bout interview.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the film is said to heavily feature Thomas Wayne - father of future Batman Bruce Wayne - who is famously gunned down alongside his wife Martha on Gotham City's crime-ridden streets.

The since-vacated role has yet to be filled as filming is now underway. Though his character Arthur Fleck is not yet donning the Joker's trademark makeup in the footage, the clown element of his arc is already foreshadowed via both the merry-go-round in the background and the red-nosed amusing man who confronts him.

"It feels unique, and I think more then anything, and probably the most important thing, is Todd seems very passionate about it and very giving, and so that's exciting", Phoenix explained.

The Phoenix movie is scheduled to hit theaters October 4, 2019.
