Amazon is reportedly making a microwave -- and 7 other secret Alexa gadgets

The world could have an Alexa-enabled microwave before 2018 is finished-yes, a microwave.

The breadth of devices in which Alexa can be found has been expanding, be it through third-party devices such as the Sonos Beam soundbar, or Amazon's own Fire TV Cube.

A new report by CNBC suggests that the company has plans for at least eight new Alexa-enabled devices, ranging from predictable items, such as an amplifier and a subwoofer, to the less conventional, such as a microwave.

CNBC, quoting an "internal document describing the plans", says that Amazon plans to release, among others, a microwave, an amplifier, a receiver, a subwoofer and an in-car gadget - all enabled with Amazon's artificial-intelligence-driven digital assistant, but only some with Alexa built-in.

Smart speakers, smart displays and smart buttons - Amazon's ambitions for its Alexa voice assistant have been growing, but it's only built a few narrow categories of Alexa products itself. The new devices will help realize Amazon's ambition of making Alexa ubiquitous in the customer's home and in their vehicle.

George R.R. Martin Wanted Game Of Thrones To Last Way Longer
This year, HBO's fantasy series " Game of Thrones " won the best drama honor for a third time and was the most-honored show with nine awards in total.

What the "in-car gadget" wasn't described, but the report noted that Garmin Ltd. now offers an Alexa-enabled dash cam. The report notes that the upcoming amplifier can be used as the central audio panel to control multiple speakers set up across a users' home, while the upcoming microwave can bring Alexa in the home's kitchen. The online shopping behemoth will introduce at least 8 new devices that can be controlled by voice before the end of the year. Sonos has a similar business model.

More so than other virtual assistants including Siri and the Google Assistant, Amazon's Alexa has always been focused on the home.

"We want customers to be able to use Alexa wherever they are", Bezos said in a statement in July.

Although there is no confirmation from Amazon, some of these devices could arrive later this month. "There are now tens of thousands of developers across more than 150 countries building new devices using the Alexa Voice Service, and the number of Alexa-enabled devices has more than tripled in the past year".
