Mike Zimmer has brutal quote about cutting struggling Vikings kicker

According to Courtney Cronin of ESPN, head coach Mike Zimmer had a brutal response in the reasoning why Carlson was let go just two games into his career.

Kicker Daniel Carlson had two chances in overtime to put Minnesota ahead, but misfired on both field goal attempts. That sealed his fate, and when asked about Carlson's release, Zimmer was pretty blunt in his assessment. "You think you've got a guy for a while, and then he goes out and misses three in a big game".

The Vikings ended up tied with the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, but they really should have come out on top.

That's not going to happen now as it was announced this morning that the Vikings had cut Daniel Carlson after two regular season games after spending a fifth-round pick on him, replacing him with one of the best kickers in National Football League history in Dan Bailey, who was cut by the Dallas Cowboys as they attempted to get down to their 53-man roster. Still, Forbath made 89 percent of his kicks, even if his eight missed extra points with the Vikings maddened Zimmer. The Browns changed kickers after Gonzalez's performance and signed rookie kicker Greg Joseph.

He acknowledged after the game that lack of confidence affected his third miss.

Carlson was cut on Monday, as the Vikings signed wide receiver Aldrick Robinson. Having someone with some experience in pressure situations, and kicking in tough road environments that aren't in the SEC (Carlson went to school at Auburn), may have sent the Vikings home with a 2-0 record Sunday afternoon.
