Deadly storm Florence is drenching North Carolina

The remnants of deadly Hurricane Florence brought more misery to the waterlogged Carolinas on Monday with officials warning the worst is yet to come, as heavy rain persisted and swollen rivers posed a growing threat.

Major flooding is expected to wrack the Carolinas throughout the week, and officials are monitoring the threat from large industrial-type hog and poultry farms whose waste pools could pose major environmental threats should they be overrun by floodwaters. Sixteen rivers in the state have reached major flood stages, with three more expected to peak in the next two days, he said.
