Broccoli and Wilson said: "We are delighted to be working with Cary".

What do you think of the choice to have Cary Fukunaga direct the next Bond film?

Fukunaga's appointment appears to have been a well-kept secret, with rumours surrounding directors Yann Demange and S.J. Clarkson as possible replacements for Boyle. By far the most interesting of the other names being kicked around, it looks like Bond 25 might be back on track to give the series a much needed freshening-up before Daniel Craig bows out. Production on the film will begin on March 4, 2019 for a February 14, 2020 release date, marking the first time a Bond film has been released in February.

The film will be Craig's fifth and final appearance as Bond after starring in "Casino Royale", "Quantum of Solace", "Skyfall" and "Spectre".

Variety reported her as a top contender for the role after Boyle left the project last month.

Boyle's wish to cast Polish actor Tomasz Kot, 41, as the film's main Russian villain may have been one of the creative differences, according to The Daily Telegraph. Long-time Bond writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are writing the script (after Boyle took his Trainspotting scribe, John Hodge, with him, along with whatever his new idea for the film was) with no word yet on plot details, casting or filming locations.
